Olympus Announces New E-510 & E-410 DSLR

After posting teaser images on their company website, Olympus has announced plans to introduce two new consumer DLSR models in June. First is the EVOLT E-510 that features a 10MP LIVE MOS sensor, new TruePic III image processor, and a mechanical sensor-shift image stabilization combined with digital image stabilization. As with previous EVOLT DSLR the lenses are three fourths mount. Three different configurations will be available, the camera body with a 14-42mm and 40-150mm telephoto lens for $999, the body and just the 14-42mm lens for $899, or just the E-510 body for $799.

The 2.5-inch, anti-glare HyperCrystal LCD includes Live View which will enable a user to compose a shot using the LCD instead of the optical viewfinder. The E-510 includes automatic and manual controls for RAW and JPEG shooting, 28 shooting modes, 5 color modes, sensitivity range of ISO 100-1600, a 3-point Auto Focus system, and dust reduction. The camera supports CF, Microdrive and xD media.

The other model announced by Olympus is the EVOLT E-410 that is due in May. The E-410 also includes a 10MP LIVE MOS sensor, the new TruePic III image processor, Live View LCD and dust reduction. However it also features 30 preset shooting modes, including an underwater function that can be optimized with the optional watertight housing case, PT-E-03 that allows for depths up to 131 feet. Metering patterns include Multipattern, center-weighted, spot, spot with shadow control, and spot with hightlight control. As with the E-510, CF, Microdrive and xD memory cards are supported. Retail packages for the E-410 are similar to the E-510, in regard to available lens kits, however the E-410 kits will cost about $100 less than the EVOLT E-510. Both cameras will be displayed at the upcoming PMA convention in Las Vegas, NV.
