His 1982 book, Uncommon Places, elevates seemingly ordinary scenes of everyday life – a highway billboard, a drive-in church chapel – and imbues them with meaning. That seminal work has inspired countless photographers and has had a profound impact on contemporary fine art photography. Today, Shore continues to pursue his vision both as an artist and a teacher. Since 1982 he has served as director of photography at Bard College.
