Photographer Joe McNally Comes To Phoenix For Kelby Traning

Professional photography Joe McNally is coming to Phoenix for the Kelby Training seminar Location Lighting Techniques on Tuesday December 7th.  This full day workshop includes Off Camera Flash Essentials, Multiple Flash Steps, Great Portraits with Multiple Flash, Unleashing Power of Flash, and Bringing out the Big Guns. 

I’ve been to several Kelby Training workshops as they visit the desert (mostly in the Winter – hey they’re clever!) and have enjoyed every one.  As a NAPP member these are so worth the 79 bucks.  Not only do you get great training, the speakers are available for questions inbetween sessions, NAPP and on-site vendors provide discounts to their great products, and there are thousands of dollars in giveaways. 

I have Joe McNally’s book “The Moment It Clicks” and watched his many training videos on the Kelby Training website.  I am really looking forward to this seminar and expect to learn a lot.

Kelby Training is coming back to Phoenix. Of course they’re waiting until December when it’s beautiful here, and who can blame them. Who wants to organize a training seminar in July or August when it is 115 degrees? No one, that’s who. I’ve attended three of these seminars and they are excellent. Non-NAPP members get the whole day for only $99, while NAPP members enjoy a day of training for only $79.

This seminar is special however, as it is hosted by celebrated professional photographer Joe McNally. “Location Lighting Techniques with Joe McNally” should prove to be well worth the price of admission. He’ll cover Off Camera Flash Essentials, Multiple Flash Techniques, Portrait Techniques, On-Location Flash Techniques and more, including live portrait shoots during the class. Shameless Plug For New Scott Kelby Lightroom and Photoshop CS5 Books

Scott Kelby’s “The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book for Digital Photographers” is now available online and in bookstores.  I believe Kelby Training is still offering a free CD of presets if you order now.   I’m already using Lightroom 3 and have the book and presets CD on the way.  His tips and tricks make using the application within my digital workflow that much more efficient.   If you’ve never used Lightroom or use it and never utilized Kelby’s previous books on the subject, I recommend it.  This new version includes his “7-Point System” for Lightroom which allows you to obtain quality, repeatable results quickly.

AdoramaTV Provides Photography Training

Popular online camera and electronics store Adorama is now providing a new training service.  Called AdoramaTV this new service is hosted by Professional Photographer Mark Wallace, and offers basic photography tutorials, behind-the-scenes looks at how to conduct a photo shoot in a studio or in the field, interviews with professional photographers and videographers, and informative reviews of new cameras, lenses, accessories and even weekly reviews of mobile photography related apps for the iPad.

NAPP Photoshop Lightroom 3 Learning Center

With the recent release announcement of Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom 3 it wasn’t long before NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) would have several resources available to Lightroom users.  NAPP has setup a new Lightroom 3 Learning Center, new Kelby Training Lightroom 3 online training courses and added a new Lightroom 3 Live! Tour which kicks off July 12^th in Florida. 

Scott Kelby has also announced the upcoming release of his new “Lightroom 3 Book for Digital Photographers”.

Upcoming Photomark Photography Classes In Phoenix, AZ

Photomark is one of two large camera stores left in the Phoenix Metro area. While there are still a few small retailers, Photomark and Tempe Camera are our last bastions of hope to get our hands physically on advanced amateur and professional photography equipment. I’ve purchased equipment from both, and both are highly recommended if living or visiting the Valley of the Sun Stroke. Photomark happens to also host regular photography related classes.

Digital Photography and Photoshop Seminars Coming To Phoenix, AZ

A couple of excellent Digital workshops are coming to Phoenix within the next couple of weeks.  First is Digital Days from Popular Photography Magazine and Sony.  This two day workshop will take place on the weekend of February 27 & 28.  The Basics course is held on Saturday and an Advanced session will be on Sunday that includes live model shoots.  This is a great place to see the current line of Sony DLSR cameras and lenses.  Hold them, touch them, caress...but I digress.  They usually have some available to use during the model shoot.  Hopefully they’ll even have the upcoming A450 on hand.  I would expect an A850 and/or the 500 series to check out. 

The other event I’m looking forward to is from Kelby Training.   The Photoshop Down & Dirty Tricks Seminar with Corey Barker will arrive in Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday March 3rd.  I highly recommend these workshops as they are informative, entertaining and crammed full of very useful information.  Plus the price can’t be beat for an all-day seminar.  Being a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals I will admit my bias, but for 99 bucks for non-members and 79 bucks for members, it’s a no brainer to attend.  One of the best things is the workbook.  They provide a complete workbook with everything that was discussed in the class, and a notes section for the ‘extra info’ that is always provided.  What I love about this is that months later when you can’t remember how to perform certain steps within Photoshop, you can open up this workbook and it’s right there.  I still use one from a NAPP seminar I attended two years ago.

NAPP Lightroom 2.0 Learning Center

Speaking of the Lightroom community that has developed over the last year, NAPP (Nation Association of Photoshop Professionals) has been one of the leading proponents of Adobe’s non-destructive photo editing and digital photography workflow application. Their new site includes a wealth of information including an overview of the application’s new features, FAQ, videos, on-line training, and links to several other Lightroom on-line sources.

Adobe TV Launched As New Training Resource

Adobe has launched a new online video resource. Adobe TV offers channels for photographers, designers, developers, and video professionals, each of which makes a wide selection of video tutorials available for free viewing. While some of the tutorials are produced by Adobe itself, others come from a variety of well-established professional training companies and publishers, including xTrain, Lynda, and Total Training. Adobe TV has launched with over 200 videos, and plans to add new segments each week.

The training videos can also be watched via the Adobe TV channel on Adobe's new Media Player software. In addition to Adobe TV, the player offers access to a broad range of programs from television networks and other content publishers. You can download the player for free from Adobe's Web site.
